Review: What My Daddy Loves

This tender, warm-hearted and totally adorable picture book is a delight.

A celebration of the bond between fathers and children, it explores learning, playing, living and dreaming with humour and joy.

Sharing all the different ways and means that fathers and children can interact, it touches deeply and poignantly on that which is good and wholesome and right in the world.

Debut author/illustrator has created a beautiful rumination on what it is to belong, on what families actually are, and on how softness and strength can co-exist in individual people.

The illustrations are bold and soft, funny and quiet, majestic and enticing. Digitally created, the use of pastel-type smudging and strong, light coloured lines over dark moments creates gentle edges and friendly warmth.

This book is one that children and their daddies will read again and again, no doubt finding and focusing on different happy ways of connecting and being together.

It’s a treat!
