Our protagonist has been fortunate enough to find that special friend, but he’s grappling with a common problem. He’s met two friends, and he doesn’t know which one is the better best friend. By definition, there can really only be one best friend, so what's he supposed to do?
I adore how this picture book doesn’t spell out all the answers. It presents a very relatable situation, explores it, and then allows the reader to draw out their own conclusion at the end. Its subtlety is refreshing and delightful. It will spark curiosity and discussion, which is perfect for classrooms.
The illustrations, too, are glorious. Stunning, actually. Beautiful shades of greens and browns and oranges – artwork so delicious you’ll want to frame the pages.
If you’re looking for a relatable and quirky tale that gets kids thinking, I highly recommend A Better Best Friend.
