Review: My Heart

Kids do all sorts of things to our hearts, and this is the concept My Heart by Katrina McKelvey and Deb Hudson explores.

When I found out you were coming … my heart glowed.

When we shared our first snuggle … my heart melted.

From birth through the toddler years and all the way up to the first day of school, this heart-warming picture book explores that loving connection between parent and child that grows as kids do.

McKelvey pours her whole heart into this story, creating a wonderful book for the younglings, as well as a story for older kids to explore to learn about their early years from a perspective different from their own.

Hudson’s illustrations are bright and cheerful. Reds and pinks steal the show throughout and there’s lots of happy hearts as you turn the pages. But these aren’t just any hearts. They’re characters! They’re part of the story. The hearts show the emotions mum is feeling as you move through the story, providing a wonderful and unique way for kids to explore emotions.

This one would make a great gift for new mums and babies. It’s the kind of book you write a special note in for your little one to keep and find when they’re older. It would also make a great gift for Mother's Day.

My Heart is a special picture books for our special kids (which, of course, is all of them!).
