Review: Ultra Violet: Down to Business

Violet Butt (who goes by V) is a super smart, science loving kid. She’s ALL about science and experiments and her pet hermit crab, Leonardo Da Pinchi.

She’s not so into the way her parents ignore her, but it’s been quite beneficial for her love of exploding things, so all in all she’s happy with life.

Her best friend Izzy (believer in aliens, evil drones and one too many conspiracy theories) also adds to the goodness, despite their different beliefs.

But everyone has to overcome challenges at some point, and this happens for V and Izzy when they discover the school toilets are broken just before the school's bean eating carnival.

What comes next is a wild, wild adventure that leads V and Izzy into the depths of the sewer system, where they must outwit alligators, aliens and a giant fatberg (a rock-like mass of waste matter made up of all the things that get stuck in drains – who knew!).

Ultra Violet: Down to Business is a hilarious and action-packed graphic novel for fans of silliness, toilet humour and bizarre facts. Science writer Cristy Burne has infused all sorts of interesting information into this book, disguising some very cool STEAM lessons in the very best of ways (honestly, you won’t even know you're learning!)

With fresh and funky illustrations by Rebel Challenger, the book is a feast for the eyes. Challenger adds several quirky (and funny) illustrator twists throughout, and she even sneaks in a hidden animal for you  find along the way.

For non-stop fun in book form, Ultra Violet: Down to Business is a must-read.
