Review: Right Way Down

Right Way Down and Other Poems, is an astonishing display of word usage by gifted wordsmiths.

Various contributors show their talents, including Sally Murphy, who with Rebecca M. Newman, have selected the poems for this compilation.

Briony Stewart creates with her detailed and entertaining black and white illustrations, an impressive accompaniment to the text.

Five sections encompass this marvellous selection: Come on In! Creative Thinkers, Creature Features, A View from Here, and Heading Home.

It was hard to pick a favourite as so many were so clever. I ended up loving them all!

These are some that will surprise.

The Wright Song by Monty Edwards is a must with its fantastic alliteration, Cricket, a Fibonacci Poem, is highly original, Terse Verse by James Foley, Tick-Tock by Sharon Hough, and The True Story of Alfred Nobel by Cristy Burne are totally unique.

Every poem contains something that will appeal to every reader in varying ways, with creative themes and word play. At a time when poetry is not a common find, don’s miss this collection.

At the end of the book, there is a Glossary of Noongar Words, a brief biography on every poet, Credits, and Editors and Illustrator. A lot of interesting information can be gleaned from these additions.
