Review: Thank You

This is a beautiful, heartfelt, hopeful, immersive and completely engaging book.

Written and illustrated by the beloved artist and children’s bookmaker Jarvis, it takes readers on a rather glorious journey through happiness and gratitude.

I thank the moon for the nighttime.

I thank the sun for the day.

I thank my boots for knowing the way.

You don’t need boots to wander through these delightful words and images – any type of footwear will do it. You can thank your crocs, your slippers, your hole-ridden sneakers or your shiny old gumboots.

The seemingly simple, collaged illustrations and spare use of words belie the complexity of this book, which invites readers to consider what it is that we are grateful for in our vast, wide, world. It then encourages us to do just that. To say thank you!

Included in the cleverly created pictures are cut up slivers of writing, blotches of surprise colour and visually tactile pattens and textures that are friendly and warm. I wanted to climb into parts of this book to explore the inviting and luscious worlds within.

I can see this book being gifted by the old and the young, to the old and the young.

It is, quite simply, delightful.
