Junior Review: Two Sides To Every Murder

A thrilling page-turner, with plot twists so good you won’t see them coming. Two Sides to Every Murder is perfect for fans of Karen McManus, Holly Jackson, and Cynthia Murphey.

From two teenage girls' point of views, the novel Two Sides to Every Murder is impossible to put down, utilising alternating timelines between 2008 and the present day; it contains plot twists around every corner that keep you hooked.

In 2008 at Camp Lost Lake, two adults were murdered and one disappeared. Reagan’s mother, Lori Knight is deemed guilty of the murders, leaving her with the name ‘The Witch of Lost Lake’ due to the mask she wore whilst murdering her victims with a notorious bow and arrow.

Olivia D’Angeli was born during these infamous murders and when she learns her father isn’t her biological dad, she begins to look into the events surrounding her birth. Olivia and Reagan are required to work together to solve the mystery behind the Camp Lost Lake Murders.

Sixteen years later and Camp Lost Lake is reopened, providing the perfect opportunity to find answers. Regan is convinced that her mother is innocent and is set to clear her mother’s name, while Olivia returns to camp seeking evidence about who her real father is. As the girls inch closer to discovering what actually happened the night of the murders, somebody is determined to keep the past hidden, even if that means killing to do so.

Danielle Valentine combines thriller and horror in this YA fiction, enticing fans of both genres. The concluding plot twist is shocking, leaving readers with more questions than answers. Overall, Two Sides to Every Murder is an outstanding book that is hard to put down and is destined to be read.
