Review: Dot! Scribble! Go!

Immerse yourself in creativity with this unique picture book about letting loose with your pen.

Part exploration of lines and shapes, part instructional drawing book, Dot! Scribble! Go! is all about forgetting the rules and just having a go.

It’s about creating without pressure or rules or worry. It’s about enjoyment.

In Hervé Tullet style, this book is highly interactive. Tullet invites you to dip your finger into his colour pallet and circle here and draw there. By doing so, you participate in creating the artwork on the page, showing you just how easy it is to create when you let go and run with your imagination.

You’ll draw flowers and animals and people and patterns, all with a few lines, dots and scribbles. Each drawing is messy. There is no perfectly straight lines in here. It’s highly engaging and a lot of fun.

This is a great book to sit with and work through with your kids together, letting them play with each page. It will inspire their creativity and get them drawing amazing creations of their own very quickly. With thick glossy pages, this is a hard-wearing book that will withstand many page turns as kids explore it forwards, backwards and forwards again.

I’m a big fan of books like this one. They’re important to own and gift to kids to show them that creativity is simply about trying something and seeing where it goes. We don’t have to be perfect. We are all artists every single time we pick up a pen.
