Review: Wedge-tailed Eagle

The latest in the Nature Storybook series by award-winning author, Claire Saxby, and multi-talented illustrator Christina Booth, invites us into the life of the grand Wedge-tailed eagle in the company of a female and her mate.

The design is the same design as all the books in the series; text, then the information in italics, on backgrounds of natural surroundings.

Large, bold images of the birds, stationary and in flight are brought to life on the page with Booth's fantastic illustrations.

We follow the pair in their soaring on thermals, mating rituals, their preening one another, habits in breeding season, and search for food.

We learn how long it takes for the eggs to hatch, the process of caring for the chicks, their weight, and at what time they are ready to become independent.

They repeatedly use the same nest if it is safe and is set high in trees with a long view.

The female is larger than the male, who supplies her with food during nesting time.

There is an Information About at the end with added facts about wedge-tailed eagles which is not included in the previous pages.

The Index gives a quick reference to the pages on which major words are used. There is also an About the Author and About the Illustrator which is always interesting and informative.

Another lesson on nature’s miracles to add to this fabulous series!
