Review: The Brightest Christmas Star

The Christmas Star is the narrator of this delightful rhyming picture book full of rhythm and metre. This is Laura Motherway's first book.

From up high, it sees everyone sharing the joy they feel on the eve of the best day of the year.

It shines for everyone, no matter who or where.

Through the day, the children played in the sun, in water, and on the sand.

A wonderful child-filled double spread full of activity, reflects the freedom and joy youngsters find when on the beach.

Bales of hay with a star on top are used to bring the young observers higher, close to the birds in flight right before their eyes.

The natural world is always of interest to them in one way or another.

Later in the evening in the town, carols are being sung. Shopping bags are full, so are baskets on bikes and the backs of prams. Greetings are exchanged from shop doors and passers-by.

The star looks down on indoors; families, decorations, parcel wrapping, balloons, and trees decked out, tinsel, and chatter.

Hand-made gifts are underway for giving and sharing. Houses smell of freshly baked biscuits and cakes.

Soon it’s bedtime and that’s when the star shines the brightest through open windows, while summer breezes blow, and morning can’t come soon enough.

Pages and pages full of children and Christmas preparations, fill this beautifully illustrated book. Rich in Christmas atmosphere, it reflects, love, warmth and joy the season brings.
