Review: Guinness World records 2025 – The Next Chapter Of Record Breaking 70th Anniversary Edition

One Christmas morning a long, long time ago my big sister unwrapped a shiny green copy of The Guiness Book Of Records and I was SO, SO, SO JELLY!

I got over it though, and then we spent whole days of the summer poring over that miraculous book – marvelling at the unbelievable photos and records, and vowing to one day break a record of our own (which we never did).

In 2025, Guiness World Records is celebrating its 70th year of publication.

It contains a chapter celebrating the book’s evolution in terms of design and inclusions over seven decades, and all the special extras that you’d expect and love from such a publication – including items that didn’t make it to print over the years. It’s such a mind-boggling treat to wander through!

In fact, who knew that after SEVEN DECADES, this tried and true format of people doing the most outrageous things and accomplishing dizzying heights, would still have the allure of old movie stars with cigarettes dangling from their glorious lips, or the addictive pull of those pesky social media sites we love and we hate?

Who knew too, that the woman with the longest hair in the world would hold the title for decades, only to be usurped not once but twice in a very short period of time? Or, that washing her hair would require litre upon litre of shampoo and hour upon hour of precious life minutes to achieve.

Well, now YOU do!

This book is fantastic – but be warned, it will definitely entice you into rabbit holes and down tunnels that you just weren’t even THINKING about going into. And these are hours of your life that you won’t get back, ever.

That said, I love this book so much I want to marry it. It’s totally brilliant.

If you’ve never owned your own copy, I can thoroughly recommend purchasing one for yourself or your household. Heck, get one for each hand. It’s a total winner, and the perfect conversation starter for when things get awkward or your mobile battery is flat.
