The Humdingle family is large.
Their house is tiny,
consisting of only one each of the most necessary items of furniture.
Imagine the chaos of eight people waiting their turn to use the one toilet.
Bedtime comes with other challenges.
Lots of complaining, moans and groans, echo through the small areas.
Imaginings of a place catering for each person’s needs, frequently occupies everyone’s mind.
One night, as they sit on their single couch on the veranda gazing at the stars - which are twinkling and bright at that specific moment, they wish for a humongous house.
Within seconds, through the complete silence that descends, a shooting star falls from the sky and, the most humongous house lands in their back yard.
Their dreams and wishes become reality. Their house now has lots of space to roam through. Privacy rules.
Grandma and Grandpa have their own room. The dogs have a huge kennel. The chickens a roomy pen.
It is said that one must be careful of what they
wish for.
Where is the sound of snoring that sent them all to sleep? The long conversations exchanged before sleep; the togetherness.
Too many things have been replaced by empty space. Too
much empty space.
How will they fill all the space inside the huge
house, and themselves, that their granted wish has created?
A wonderful, full-of-warmth book, about families, parents, and grandparents and the importance of communication between them. It points to the value of being a close knit unit, and appreciating all that you have.
Beautifully illustrated by PJ Reece in soft pastel colours, with stunning end pages depicting all the family members!
