Searching for Treasure by Johanna Bell and Emma Long is a beautiful walk along the high tide line of a beach.
The perspective throughout most of the book is looking down from a child’s height. With each step there are new things to discover. Look out for bluebottles though!
‘What can you find?’ is the refrain repeated as you progress.
There are flaps on most pages, with new treasures under each one. Shells, sea urchins, cuttlebones, sea sponges and Neptune’s necklaces are just some of what can be found. There are also tracks made by sea creatures like crabs.
Winding through the illustrations is smaller text with facts about the sea treasures. For instance, did you know scallops are excellent swimmers that move by snapping their shells together?
When you reach the end of the journey, there’s a fantastic surprise waiting when you open the large gate-fold page.
Relax and take a trip to the beach. Searching for Treasure will open your eyes and imagination and have children yearning to go exploring.
